Updated: Jun 1, 2019
"Having a following is such a great opportunity to make people aware of issues that are occurring around the world."
Aliyah Simone is a 16 year old lifestyle youtuber who creates weekly videos for her 270,000 subscribers. Some of her main goals are to start her own business, write a book and have a family of her own.
What does being a black woman of influence mean to you?
Being a person of color with some sort of following means the world, but it’s also a lot of pressure. Having a following is such a great opportunity to educate and make people of all ages aware of issues that are occurring around the world. It also allows me to shed light on things I am passionate about. I may not have the melanin of most people of color but I do feel like I can take a stand on many social injustices involving many minorities.
How would you describe yourself, if you were an animal what animal would you be and why?
If I was an animal I would definitely describe myself as an elephant simply because they are known for their wisdom, strength, leadership, and friendliness. I like to believe that since I’ve experienced a lot as a child I can pass down my experiences and teach others about how I deal with my demons.
What's your best piece of advice?
Never take your success for granted, you never know when everything you’ve worked for will go away. Treat everything like it’s the last time you will have with whatever you’re doing!
